About Me

Growing up in the “Motor City”, Detroit, Michigan, Century would find her biggest influence to pursue music would come from the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, of TLC. “When I heard her voice and her energy for the first time I wanted to be just like her. My mom wouldn’t even let me have the album cause of the parental advisory so I had to pay a bum to go get it for me.”Century later moved to Washington DC to attend college at Howard University. After being scouted at an emcee battle in 2002, Century along with two other ladies, signed a 2 year production deal with Sony Music. The group later disbanded due to internal issues.

In 2009 she moved to Sacramento, CA and joined the group MLS (Major League Spittaz) and recorded tracks for the album “Sharpshooterz”. Part of the TPR camp (The People’s Revolution), she’s performed at a host of Sacramento local shows, including opening for Z-Man for Auburn Hip Hop Congress, DJ Rated R’s Joints & Jams, opening for Ana Tijoux and Los Rakas and over 20 open mics. After being recognized for her delivery and ability to quickly write a 16 bar verse over practically any beat, a close friend gave her the nickname “BARS” and since then its become a known alter ego, both on tracks and on stage.

Century released her first solo project and first original album “Music4Music” on 4/16/2011. Shortly after this album was released, fans began to proclaim that this female had BARS! Meaning she was able to hold her own in a crowd full of emcees, be it man or woman. So soon after she adopted the stage name “Century Got BARS” aka “BARS”. By the beginning of 2012 BARS had plethora of shows under her belt, she took the silver medal in the 2012 Auburn Hip Hop Congress Emcee Olympics, and she participated in “The Sacramento Cypher” along with local SacTown hero Marva Jean “Marvaless” Cooks. She also filmed her first music video “Nola”, based loosely off the Spike Lee Joint “She’s Gotta Have It” and got an overwhelming response within days of its release on YouTube.

BARS made her iTunes Store debut with her sophomore album “Forget Today Remember Tomorrow” on 8/14/2012 and continues to rock with T.P.R. and Ghost Coast Music.
